2013 LEAGUE STANDINGS
Sponsored in part by:
DOCS WIN 9-4 AT LAKE ERIE
Dayton took the lead with four in the third and pulled away late as the Docs won 9-4 against the Lake Erie Monarchs Friday night at Ned Skeldon Stadium.
Down 1-0 after two innings, Dayton took the lead for good with four in the third. Jesse Rait was hit by a pitch to start the frame and advanced to second on a Patrick Paligraf bunt. An error by the second baseman off the bat of Zach Mosbarger allowed Rait to score and after a Brian Bien hit put runners on first and third, a squeeze bunt from Joe Ford drove in Mosbarger with the go-ahead run.
The final two runs of the inning came on three straight hits by Chris Manning, Garrett Gray and Brady Stewart.
The Docs extended the lead to 6-1 in the sixth, but the Monarchs closed the deficit to 6-4 with three in the seventh. Dayton, though, tallied an unearned run in the eighth and added two more in the ninth on a passed ball and another Manning RBI single.
The 3-4-5 batters in the Dayton order--Manning, Gray and Stewart--each had two hits with Manning driving in two and Stewart scoring twice. Mosbarger also had two runs scored.
Michael Clark (2-1) picked up the win as he pitched the first seven innings while Stephen Holland and Travis Hissong each threw a scoreless frame.
Dayton (15-19) heads to Cincinnati Sunday to take on the league-leading Steam. Game time is 7:05.
